Women’s basketball: American to coach Romania

Romanian Basketball Federation President Carmen Tocala has announced that Stacey Nolan, the American that coaches ICIM Arad, will take over the Romanian women’s national basketball team. “I’ve talked with Stacey Nolan and with ICIM Arad’s leadership. They agreed. The American will coach both the national team and ICIM. I also talked with the player when I came up with this idea,” Tocala stated for Radio Timisoara. The American will replace head coach George Mandache. The latter failed to qualify the team for the European Championship. Next year Romania has to take part in playoffs in Italy, with only one in ten teams set to reach the European Championship. ICIM Arad has won all 18 games it has played in the first half of the 2010/2011 season – 12 in the national championship, four in the Central European League and two in the Romanian Cup.
