Advertising market, down 13 pc in 2010

A report released by media agency MEC Romania shows the local advertising market dropped 13 pc from last year, to EUR 330 M, ‘Financiarul’ newspaper reports. The austerity measures enforced by the government will have a negative impact upon the advertising industry next year too, when the total investments made by advertisers might go up 1 pc compared to 2010. According to the latest report, the internet advertising market had a spectacular increase (65 pc) in the first half of 2010, against the similar period of 2009, reaching an approximate EUR 10 M, Bogdan Prajisteanu, president of MEC Romania announced.

The most severe drop (30 pc) from last year’s level was registered by the written press, with total earnings from advertisement worth EUR 32 M. The decline of advertising incomes in the written media was also driven by the significant reduction of the price charged for ads, which went as far as 80 pc from last year. In its turn, the Out Of Home advertising reported a 16 pc drop vs. the previous year, down to EUR 37 M in total. The same downward trend was experienced by radio stations, which reported a 14 pc decline of their incomes from ads, down to a total EUR 24 M. This year too, television was the media channel preferred by local advertisers, but even in this sector incomes from ads decreased by 12 pc compared to 2009.
