Armed robbery and shots fired in Constanta

Early Tuesday morning two masked men stole a safe from an exchange house in Ovidiu locality, Constanta County. The safe contained RON 70,000.

Gelu Manolescu, spokesperson of the County’s Police Inspectorate, stated for Agerpres that a patrol car spotted the thieves outside the exchange house. The two had nothing on them and fled in a car. “Because they did not obey the officer’s calls to stop shots were fired at the vehicle. (…) Subsequently the investigators discovered that the safe had been stolen although at first it was thought that had not happened,” the spokesperson stated. The two masked men tore a metal lattice and broke inside. “The patrol car that was nearby was alerted by the exchange house’s alarm, with security company agents arriving on the scene afterward,” Gelu Manolescu stated.

According to him the thieves’ getaway car was a dark Alfa Romeo with foreign license plates. The investigation is ongoing and police roadblocks have been set up on several County roads.
