Cash for clunkers programme open to public institutions

The Environment Ministry announced that as a consequence of the adoption of Emergency Ordinance 109/2010 that concerns some financial-budgetary measures, starting in 2011 public institutions will be able to sign up for the “cash for clunkers” programme, ‘Evenimentul Zilei’ informs. Thus, according to the ordinance, public authorities and institutions are able to buy vehicles through the national “cash for clunkers” programme. In order to access the programme the public institutions should be fully financed from the national budget, local budgets, or the social insurances’ stage budget, from their own revenues and state subsidies or fully from their own revenues.

This year funds totaling RON 722 M were earmarked from the environment fund for the “cash for clunkers” programme in order to scrap 190,000 auto vehicles. 187,529 cars have been scrapped until this week. 60,000 new cars, of which 24,880 were locally produced, have been bought through this programme.
