Controversial Bihor prosecutor retires

President Traian Basescu on Monday signed the decree for the retirement of prosecutor Alexandru Florian Lele of the Bihor Tribunal, the Presidential Administration announces. At the beginning of 2008, the Prosecutors’ Section of the Supreme Council of Magistrates (CSM) restored Alexandru Lele to the position of prosecutor, after he had been suspended in 2002. The decision was justified with an Ordinance of the Criminal Section of the High Court of Cassation and Justice, which dropped all charges against prosecutor Alexandru Lele, who had been suspended by the Ministry of Justice, in 2002, for several accusations of corruption. Alexandru Florian Lele was sent in court in the summer of 2002, on counts of bribe taking, favouring the criminal, intellectual fraud and destruction of official writs. The accusers claimed that Alexandru Florian Lele hid for over five years a file in which two suspects were probed for forging and using fake documents, in order to illegally register several automobiles.
