Economy, Development ministries get more money to cover debts

The ministries of Economy and of Regional Development and Tourism were allocated extra funds to their budgets in order to cover part of their arrears. The Regional Development and Tourism Ministry will get RON 21 M which will be used to pay debts for infrastructure works, Minister Elena Udrea explained after a government session that decided the hike on Tuesday.

The Economy Ministry will also be given RON 20 M from the budget reserve fund to pay Nuclearelectrica debts to the company that manufactures fuel for nuclear reactors 3 and 4, which will be built at Cernavoda, Agerpres reported. On December 15, the government had increased the budgets of six other ministries by RON 1.22 bln from the reserve fund, in order to cover part of their debts.

The 2011 state budget, which includes next year’s budget sums of all state institutions and ministries, was passed by Parliament last Wednesday after heated debates. MPs approved the budget with 207 votes in favour, 143 against and no abstention. Debates in plenum began last Monday and were held in emergency procedure, at PM Emil Boc’s request. The passage of the 2011 budget by the end of the year was deemed crucial by the authorities to receive the next tranche from the IMF loan.
