The InterAgro group, controlled by businessman Ioan Niculae, will close down three more chemical plants, during February 15 and April 30. The company already closed two of its production facilities at the end of 2010 and will lay off 5,700 employees – some 63 pc of its total personnel – because, from now on, it has to purchase imported natural gas, at higher prices, Mediafax reports. The Ga Pro Co Savinesti plant will be closed on February 15, with 90 pc of its employees due to be made redundant, Amurco Bacau will cease operating on March 1, Donau Chem Turnu Magurele on April 1 and Chemgas Slobozia on April 30. The group already closed the Nitroporos Fagaras plant on November 7 and Viromet Victoria on December 8. Ioan Niculae controls over 25 companies operating in the chemical and food industries, in agriculture and tourism, with a total 9,000 employees.
