Vasile Stanga, head coach of the Romanian men’s national handball team, stated for ‘Evenimentul Zilei’ daily that his players are capable of delivering a surprise at the World Cup tournament set to start next week in Sweden. “We’ll go up against any team,” Stanga stated. Hardly three weeks have passed since the Romanian women’s handball team won a medal at the European Championships for the first time (Bronze medal in the tournament hosted by Denmark and Norway) and the men’s team is undergoing its final preparations ahead of the World Cup hosted by Sweden. Romania is in a difficult group, set to play against the powerful Croatia (World runner-up), Denmark (semifinalist in 2009) and Serbia.
