Romanian tennis player Simona Halep has qualified for the quarterfinals of the USD 220,000 WTA tournament in Auckland (New Zealand), after Russia’s Elena Vesnina (top seed 6) conceded defeat in the last-16 stage while the score was 2-6, 6-4, 4-0 in favor of the Romanian player. In the quarterfinals Halep will play against Belgium’s Yanina Wickmayer (top seed 2). In the doubles event, Romania’s Edina Gallovits and France’s Alize Cornet have qualified for the quarterfinals after defeating Spain’s Lourdes Dominguez Lino and Silvia Soler Espinosa. Romania’s Victor Hanescu was defeated by Latvia’s Ernests Gulbis in the first round of the Doha tournament, score 6-3, 7-6 (6).
