Monica Niculescu/Zi Yan (Romania/China, top seed 2 pair) have qualified on Wednesday for the semifinals of the WTA tournament’s doubles event in Brisbane, a tournament with prizes totaling USD 220,000, the wtatour.com website informs. Niculescu and Yan defeated Australia’s Jarmila Groth/Jade Hopper, score 6-3, 6-4. For this result the pair will receive a check for USD 3,100 and 130 WTA points. In the semifinals Niculescu/Yan could play against Alexandra Dulgheru/Olga Savchuk (Romania/Ukraine) provided the latter defeats Poland’s Klaudia Jans/Alicja Rosolska.
