The young Japanese-born ballerina Kokoro Umemoto, a soloist of the Bucharest National Opera (ONB)’s Ballet Company, will make her debut on Sunday in one of the most appreciated classical ballets, “The Nutcracker”, a release by the institution remitted, on Thursday, to Agerpres, informs. The Christmas tale, signed by Piotr Illych Tchaikovsky, presented by ONB’s ballet company and orchestra, features the young Kokoro Umemoto as Clara, opposite soloist-dancer Valentin Stoica, in the title role. Alongside Kokoro Umemoto and Valentin Stoica, the cast includes ONB dancers Antonel Oprescu, Bogdan Canila, Laura Blica-Toader, Mihaela Soare and Florin Mihalache. The musical direction of the performance will rest with conductor Ciprian Teodorascu. Kokoro Umemoto can already boast a brilliant career abroad, having collaborated with the Prague State Opera Ballet, the Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada and the Tokyo Ballet. She is a graduate of the prestigious Royal Ballet School in London and also studied at the Vanganova Academy in Saint Petersburg, the Central School of Ballet in London and the National Ballet School in Shanghai.
The young Japanese ballerina is a laureate of several international awards, including the AICD International Ballet Award (2003), the silver medal in the Tokyo All Japan Ballet Competition (2004) and the bronze medal in the 2005 edition of the same competition, the first prize in the Nara Ballet Competition and the first prize in the Nagoya All Japan Ballet Competition (2006).
