Online card payments up 38 pc last year

Electronic commerce based on online card payments increased by 38 pc in 2010, to EUR 127.8 M, while the number of processed transactions advanced by 82 pc, according to data provided by Romcard, quoted by Mediafax.

In 2009, electronic commerce with online payment rose by 75 pc, to EUR 92.8 M. A number of 2.08 million transactions, worth EUR 121 M, were processed through the ePayment system administered by GeCAD ePayment International, reads a press release. “The e-commerce market has entered the phase of maturity. Year 2010 brought two new traders in the market, which sought to expand their online business and to provide the best solutions at the lowest cost,” GeCAD ePayment CEO Daniel Nicolescu explained.

In 2010, the average value of a transaction made through the ePayment system amounted to EUR 58, down from EUR 79 in 2009. “The industries where most transactions have been processed are: telecommunications, tourism, utility payments, services, retail and entertainment,” adds the release. The encouraging evolution of the last four months fuels our optimism for 2011, when we estimate a 30 pc increase over 2010, in terms of e-commerce transactions volume,” mentions the release. GeCAD ePayment estimates the increasing trend will be present in 2011 as well, with the same growth rate as in 2010.
