Emanuel Gyenes made it to Top 20 of the Dakar Rally. The Romanian motorcycle pilot from the town of Satu Mare ended 28th the seventh stage of the rally, between Arica and Antofagasta, but climbed one place in the general classification. The stage was shortened by 300 km, because it included a very difficult segment in the Atacama. The high difficulty of the Atacama roads, which made many competitors abandon the race, forced the organisers to cut by more than half the most difficult special stage of the rally. The competitors ran alongside the Pacific coast, on very tough roads, so even the winner of the motor class, Chaleco Lopez lost his muffler in the middle of the race. The Chilean exploited very well the advantage of running at home and ended more than two minutes ahead of Ciryl Despres. Romanian biker Emanuel Gyenes ended 28th and climbed one place on the general scoreboard, up to the 20th place.
