The representatives of the Bucharest Mayor’s Office are about to set up, in the vicinity of the Museum of Aviation, a monument titled “Obiect simbol” (Symbol-object), in which they are to invest no less than RON 2.7 M (approx. EUR 62,000), “Evenimentul Zilei” reports. The monument resembles a fretted disk, made of bronze, placed on a granite lens, with an “insect wing” on top, and is dedicated to “the founders of Romanian aviation”. The Mayor’s Office has not organized a bid yet and only negotiated with one artist, Adriana Valentina Ivan. According to the assignment notice, the monument has to be completed in 30 work days and should come with a two-year guarantee. City Hall representatives claim the Aviation Museum authorities have been consulted, although the latter deny it. “The higher bodies (e.n. the Air Force Staff, under the authority of the Defence Ministry) have yet to be advised of this monument,” the museum’s representative stated, quoted in the aforementioned publication.
