National Road 10 still blocked by collapsed rocks

National Road 10 connecting the cities of Brasov and Buzau was yesterday blocked by several rocks that had collapsed on the road in the area of the Siriu reservoir. The intervention teams tried to detonate the rocks until midnight, but were unable to clear the road. A total of 15 kilos of TNT were used, the operation being extremely dangerous as the detonations could set in motion other rocks. ‘Nothing fell off the side of the mountain during the night, so we resumed our operation this morning after successfully displacing the three large blocks yesterday. Ten blocks of 12 cubic metres each are still there and the intention is to finish with the detonation part sometime during the afternoon and then allow road workers to start to clear the road and check the stability of the slope and the safety of the carriageway,’ ISU Buzau co-ordinator LtCol Danut Nicolae told Agerpres on Wednesday.

Tuesday’s landslide locked DN 10 along 40 metres, from the viaducts of Stanca Teherau and Giurca. Motorists travelling to Brasov must take the alternative route through Valenii de Munte – Cheia, meaning a 60-km detour.
