Government to pay holiday bonuses of EUR 23 M

The state will pay vacation bonuses of EUR 23.5 M in 2011, according to Realitatea.net who notes that the information came from this year’s state budget law.

Finance Ministry officials claims the EUR 23 M are unpaid bonuses from previous years. Among the public sector employees who benefited from vacation bonuses in 2010 there are those working for the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Labour and the Government.

The Government representatives however say that no vacation bonuses or premiums will be paid in 2011. ‘No vacation bonuses and no extra hours will be paid in 2011. There is a chapter on bonuses for difficult labour conditions, but it does not apply to the employees in the Victoria Palace, but to those operating in the nuclear sector’, Government spokeswoman Ioana Muntean told Realitatea TV.

While some public sector employees receive vacation bonuses, some other are not that lucky. Even if they won in court unpaid salaries, they still have to wait two years before they can get their money back. The Government issued an ordinance stipulating that salary rights won in court before December 31, 2010 will be paid in instalments between 2012 and 2014: 34 per cent in 2012, 33 per cent in 2013 and 33 per cent in 2014.
