The inspectors of the National Tax Administration Agency (ANAF) staged an unannounced inspection at the offices of large fuel-distribution companies, to check their earnings, according to “Evenimentul Zilei”. ANAF checked financial reports to keep track of how the companies set the quantum of taxes to be paid to the state, as well as their grounds for hiking the price of fuels, the president of the institution, Sorin Blejnar, stated. Given that they are dealing with important taxpayers, the inspection could go on for months. The president of ANAF explained that the inspectors would check, among other things, the relation between the price at which fuels are purchased by the distribution companies and the selling price, in gas stations. If any of the firms reported losses in 2010, inspectors will try to track the main factors which accounted for losses – the profit margins applied, the elements which weighed most under expenses, etc., Blejnar added. Other types of expenses will be analyzed, particularly those involving third parties, such as transport, services, consultancy, mediation, etc.
