Moldovans, Turks and Chinese lead in legal immigrants’ ranking

Moldovan (17,494), Turkish (8,969) and Chinese citizens (7,049) make up the largest ethnic groups of legal immigrants registered in Romania last year, according to a study presented on Friday by the Romanian Immigration Office, while citizens from across the Prut also lead in the ranking of applications for long-term and short-term visas approved by this institution. In 2010, no less than 3,783 illegal immigrants were found, 25 per cent less than in 2009, when 5,045 foreign citizens without a legal permit were reported, the release further indicates.
