Holocaust Day, commemorated at ICR Stockholm

On January 27, Sweden commemorates Holocaust Day, an event which ICR Stockholm will mark by a programme dedicated to the writer Hédi Fried, born in Sighet and a survivor of the Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps, a communiqué sent to Nine O’Clock reads. Alongside Hédi Fried, the manifestation at ICR will be attended by the journalist Louise Epstein from the Swedish Radio Broadcasting Corporation and the actress Lil Terselius. Hédi Fried was born in 1924 in Sighet (now Sighetul Marmatiei); during World War II, she was deported, as was the great majority of the Jewish population in the area. She survived through Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen and, after the war, found refuge in Sweden. She has delivered lectures and conferences at seats of learning and congresses throughout the world and she is the founder of the Café 84 psychosocial centre in Stockholm, which offers counselling to Holocaust survivors.
