The Foreign Minister, Teodor Baconschi, stated, on Monday, that the Romanian diplomacy is working on bringing about an official visit by the Pope to Romania. “We are working via the diplomatic channels. The invitation has to come from the Patriarch and, as soon as the latter receives the Holy Synod’s approval, he will initiate the official procedure. Nevertheless, there is every likelihood that we bring such a guest to Romania, no later than this year … perhaps,” Baconschi stated. The minister warned, however, that the Sovereign Pontiff’s travel agenda is fairly full and this will influence the setting of a date. “We have to see when and how we can have him over.” The minister made these statements on Monday, on the inauguration of the Holy Assumption Congregation’s “Sfintii Petru si Andrei” Byzantine Studies Centre.
