Cup joy for Marseille

Marseille will face Montpellier in the Coupe de la Ligue final after a 2-0 win over Auxerre on Wednesday night, according to Brandao broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time and Andre-Pierre Gignac made it 2-0 in the 68th minute, both strikers on target for the second game in succession. Montpellier reached the Stade de France showpiece with a 1-0 extra-time win over Paris St Germain last night. “We should not minimise the importance of the Coupe de La Ligue. It’s not a common thing to reach two finals in succession,” Marseille coach Didier Deschamps told L’Equipe. “Last year we won when the club had not lifted a title for several years, and this year we’ll try to retain it. For me, the end of a competition is only beautiful if you win it.”
