Dancu: Ponta will not run for president; Nastase, Athanasiu – possible candidates

In a statement aired by Realitatea.net, sociologist Vasile Dancu analysed the current options of PSD presidential candidates, in the context of a possible PSD/ACD alliance. “Given my experience with PSD, Ion Iliescu will rather test a classic left-wing candidate with a pedigree, such as Professor Alexandru Athanasiu, an intellectual that is increasingly present in political shows on TV. Maybe another generation will have a more pragmatic thinking, in favor of Adrian Nastase,” Dancu explained. “With Victor Ponta giving up the race for president, in favor of a position of premier, (…) PSD must push internal competition for presidential elections towards a very good candidate, which can partner with Crin Antonescu, even if the latter will gets elected eventually,” the sociologist explained.
