Mihai Bravu flyover to open to traffic in March 2012

Bucharest General Mayor Sorin Oprescu Saturday said that the Mihai Bravu overpass, where works started earlier in the week, will open to traffic in March 2012, reports. The flyover will have been concluded by the end of this year, with the connecting ramps to be finished in 2012, City Hall officials say. The overpass will start from Vantului St. (Mihai Bravu underground station) cross Splaiul Unirii (Dambovita River) and the Vacaresti – Mihai Bravu Blvd. junction, and will have the Vacaresti Road as its end-point. Meanwhile, Bucharest Prefect Mihai Atanasoaei challenged in court the authorization released by the general mayor on account of the latter encroaching on the law. More exactly, Sorin Oprescu is accused of flouting the law, not once, but four times when he issued the construction authorization for the Mihai Bravu – Splaiul Unirii overpass, though ungrounded in the Zonal Urban Development Plan passed by the General Council of the Bucharest Municipality. Also, the documentation attached to the authorization lacks the mandatory authorization from the Environmental Protection Agency. Under the law, emergency works are those applying to buildings held as posing public danger, as well as to consolidation works, partial demolitions as a result of national calamities, damages and accidents.
