Olosz Gergely gets necessary signatures to run for UDMR president

The leader of UDMR Deputies, Olosz Gergely will formally submit his bid for the presidency of UDMR, as he mustered over 3,000 signatures in support of his candidacy, though only 1,000 were needed. Besides signatures from individual members of UDMR, he is also supported by a territorial organisation – UDMR Historic Maramures – and a platform with representation within the Council of Union’s Representatives, he announced.

The campaign of gathering signatures in favour of Deputy Olosz Gergely started last Sunday. He resorted to the support of the electorate, because the Covasna branch of UDMR he belongs to decided to support Kelemen Hunor as candidate for the presidency of the ethnic Hungarian’s Union.

Under the UDMR statute, a candidate must have either the support of a territorial branch of the Union, or the signatures of at least 1,000 individual members.
