Lindsey Vonn won her second World Cup super-G of the weekend in Cortina d’Ampezzo when she pipped arch-rival Maria Riesch to victory. The American clinched a 39th career title by just 0.05secs but Riesch, who was formerly considered a slalom specialist, emerged from the three-race weekend with a 145 point lead in the overall standings. “We have seen this weekend that Maria can compete for the top spots in the speed races,” said Vonn, quoted by skysports.com. “I really have to push myself to stay at this level.” However, Riesch is aware that Vonn is capable of capitalising on the slightest blip. “My lead is not a comfortable one but it is good to know that I can beat Lindsey in the speed races,” said the double Olympic champion. Lara Gut of Switzerland finished third some 0.88 seconds behind, pushing Julia Mancuso – who was second in the downhill – out of the podium positions.
