CNA fines Antena 3 and Realitatea TV

The National Audiovisual Council (CNA) has issued a RON 15,000 fine against the Antena 3 news network because of a January 12 show that allegedly tarnished President Traian Basescu’s image. During that show analyst Radu Tudor, the show’s permanent guest, stated that the Head of State may be involved in the corruption row affecting the National Health Insurance House. Although the Antena 3 representative that attended the CNA meeting yesterday argued that Radu Tudor expressed “an opinion” during that show, the Council issued a RON 15,000 fine against the station, considering that it failed to ensure “objective information through the correct presentation of actions and events and to favor the free forming of opinions.” Realitatea TV, Antena 3’s competitor, was fined RON 12,000 yesterday for the bias shown during two shows that were attacked within the CNA by the Presidential Administration and PDL.
