Romania’s car fleet up 1.8 pc in 2010

The total number of road vehicles registered in Romania increased by 1.8 pc last year, to more than 5.42 million vehicles, including 4.3 million automobiles, 6.4 pc more than in 2009, according to data released by the Driving Licenses and Car Registration Department (DRPCIV) of the Romanian Police, quoted by Mediafax. Most vehicles, almost 60 pc of the total, are equipped with petrol engines. Based on the age of these vehicles, most of them – almost 1.3 million – were manufactured 6 to 10 years ago, 1.1 million were 3 to 5 years old and nearly 640,000 were under 2 years old. The number of vehicles older than 20 years reached 932,000. On region basis, most vehicles were registered in Bucharest (1.17 million), followed by Timis County (over 203,000 units) and Cluj County (over 202,000 units). The last place was held by Tulcea County, with 40,500 registered vehicles. At the end of 2010, Romanians were also driving almost 500,000 utility vehicles, 50,000 tractors and some 26,000 motorcycles. The fleet of buses and minibuses reached an approximate 40,000 units.
