Eckstein Kovacs files candidacy for UMDR leadership

The presidential adviser Peter Eckstein Kovacs filed, on Wednesday, at the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR)’s Executive Presidium office in Cluj-Napoca, his candidacy for party leadership, Mediafax reports. Eckstein Kovacs’s electoral program revolves around the target of autonomy. The presidential aide voiced his conviction that “granting wider self-determination prerogatives” to the Szeklers’ County would boost the region’s economic standing, according to “Adevarul”. The aspiring party president argued that “the territorial autonomy project should be embraced by all the inhabitants of the region, be they Hungarians, Romanians or Roma.”
