Figure Skating EC: German pair make solid start

Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy made a solid start in their bid to upgrade last year’s second place at the European Figure Skating Championships in Bern, according to Eurosport. The German couple, who won the title for three consecutive years between 2007 and 2009, scored 72.31 points for their Russian folk inspired routine while defending champions, Yuko Kavaguti and Alexander Smirnov, ranked second after the short program with 69.49 points. Russian team-mates Vera Bazarova and Yuri Larionov complete the medal positions ahead of the free skate while Great Britain’s Stacey Kemp and David King are seventh, as they look to improve on their career best sixth place three years ago.
