Local critics hand down Best Film Fest awards

The most appreciated movie productions and artists will be called in today in a week long event hosted by Studio Cinema in Bucharest, as part of the 11th edition of the Best Film Fest Gala, an event which offers viewers a second chance to watch some of the past year’s most memorable productions. This year, the retrospective will also be present in several other Romanian cities. Tonight’s event in Bucharest will include a gala featuring over 300 local VIPs, actors, directors, film distributors and producers, during which a list of the top 2010 productions will be presented and several awards will be given, included best film showed in Romania, best European film, best Romanian director and actor.


Nominees in the best European film of the year are Sylvain Chomet’s “The Illusionist,” Polanski’s “Ghost Writer” and Michael Haneke’s “White Ribbon.” Among the best Romanian actresses nominated by local critics are Ozana Oancea for “First of All, Felicia” and Mirela Oprisor for “Tuesday after Christmas” while best Romanian actors selected are George Pistereanu, “If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle” and Victor Rebengiuc for “Medal of Honour.” Andrei Ujica, the author of “Nicolae Ceausescu’s Autobiography” has most chances of winning the best Romanian director award. Also, the jury has selected three films running for the best film screened locally: “The Social Network,” “Shutter Island” and “Nicolae Ceausescu’s Autobio­graphy.” The gala evening will conclude with a surprise screening.
