Constanta mayor to sue anti-corruption authority

Constanta Mayor Radu Mazare announced last Friday that he will sue the National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) and will seek compensations worth EUR 1 M, because anti-corruption prosecutors are acting differently in similar situation. He also accused DNA of being the political police of Traian Basescu. He claims that DNA sued him for returning lands to people who had previously bought the succession rights from the rightful owners. “The DNA sent me a document which clearly demonstrates that we are receiving different treatment in identical situations. More precisely, this refers to the case of retrocessions, in which I and hundreds of other people were probed for five years and then sent in court. I was accused of returning plots of land to people who had bought the succession rights,” the Constanta mayor said.
