Six injured in bus collision with train

Six persons were lightly injured on Monday morning after a train hit a bus in Cristian locality, Brasov County. According to Brasov County’s Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU), the bus driver failed to observe the right of way at a railway crossing and was hit by a train travelling on the Brasov – Zarnesti route. “The bus was simply cut in half by the impact and the train derailed. We can say it was a miracle because we have only six people with injuries that aren’t life threatening and there was no need for extrication,” Ciprian Sfreja, spokesperson of ISU Brasov, stated. The six persons injured – five passengers and the bus driver – were taken to the Brasov County Hospital. The bus belonged to the Brasov Autonomous Transport Administration. The bus driver had 23 years of experience and this was his first serious accident. Nevertheless police officers have charged him with causing bodily harm out of negligence. He risks spending five years in jail.
Cosmin Giosanu, spokesperson of the Brasov Traffic Police, stated that there was fog at the time of the accident and the railway crossing was not fitted with warning lights and sounds. The accident hampered traffic on National Road 73. Railway traffic was blocked for several hours on the Brasov – Zarnesti route.
