Five killed, 13 injured in road accidents

Five people died and 13 others were hospitalised after being involved in no less than 21 accidents in 24 hours on the roads of Alba, Arad, Constanta and Sibiu counties.

The accidents were mostly caused by excessive speeding, with drivers failing to adjust speed to traffic conditions, but also failing to give way or pay attention to the road. According to information from the Traffic Information Centre, 46 fender-benders were reported in the capital in the same interval, with nine people injured as consequence of speeding drivers’ negligence. A young man in Sinaia died on Monday after losing control of the wheel when taking a turn. The car ended up on the other lane, where he crashed head-on into an incoming vehicle. Extrication teams were barely able to rescue the young man. His car was almost entirely destroyed upon impact. The young man was coming from Sinaia and heading to Brasov. The driver and passengers of the other vehicle involved in the crash were slightly injured. Traffic on National Route 1 was hampered for more than an hour after the accident.
