Amnesty International urges UK to protect Bradley Manning

Amnesty International called on the British government to intervene on Bradley Manning’s behalf and demand that the conditions of his detention, which the organisation calls “harsh and punitive”, are in line with international standards. Manning is a UK citizen by descent from his Welsh mother, Susan. Manning was recently put on suicide watch for two days, in which he was stripped to his underpants, against the advice of prison psychiatrists. The Bradley Manning Support Network in US called today a National White House Call Day to support the young soldier. The public is asked to call the White House and voice support for Manning, specifically that his human rights be respected by the Quantico authorities.
