Arges County Council president to stay free during criminal probe

Arges County Council President Constantin Nicolescu, accused of corruption acts, will stay free during the criminal investigation, as the Pitesti Court of Appeals admitted yesterday evening the appeal filed by his lawyers against the preventive arrest measure. The court ordered his immediate release, but prohibited him to leave the country. The decision was made with unanimity of votes. Last week, a court put Nicolescu on preventive arrest for 29 days, in a case of EU funds embezzlement. Upon learning the verdict, Nicolescu suddenly fainted and was rushed to the Floreasca University Hospital in Bucharest, where he underwent a heart surgery. (A. G.)
