Draft law: Stray dogs not adopted in 7 days’ time to be euthanized

Suceava Mayor Ion Lungu explained yesterday that the legislation concerning stray dogs should be changed, being of the opinion that the system he saw in France, where a dog unclaimed by owners will be euthanized after 7 days, could be implemented. Lungu stated that the stray dogs’ problem cannot be solved with the current legislation, pointing out that there are areas in the city where people are terrorized by whole packs of stray dogs. “Neutering stray dogs is for naught because they end up back on the street,” the Mayor said. He underlined that there is also “trafficking” of dogs between cities, with dogs rounded up in other cities being brought to Suceava.
