Teachers to resume protests

Sources of the Free Trade Unions Federation of the Education Sector (FSLI) announced that teachers will resume their protests and will escalate them to a general strike. The main issues refer to the Education Law and the financing provided to the Education sector. Teachers threatened to protest in the streets if authorities don’t pay their overdue salaries by March. Over the next two months, FSLI will consult union members on what forms of protest they want, via a questionnaire sent to schools all over the country. Based on the answers, the Federation will decide what to do next. Trade unions also urged the Government to issue a regulation that will raise the base salary in the system. They also demanded authorities to change six articles of the Education Law, including those about the retirement age and the commuter benefits.
