President signs decree for Syria extradition treaty ratification

President Traian Basescu last week signed the decrees for submitting to the Parliament the extradition treaty between Romania and the Arab Syrian Republic, as well as the treaty on transferring the convicted felons, in view of doing their prison terms, Mediafax reports. The extradition treaty between Romania and Syria and the treaty on transferring the persons who were sentenced to prison terms, were signed in Bucharest, on November 10, 2010 during a visit of Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad. Syria detains businessman Omar Hayssam, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison by Romanian justice, for his role in the kidnapping of three Romanian journalists in Baghdad – a premiere for Romania.
