Romanian children exposed to sexually explicit internet messages

Three quarters of Romanian children with ages ranging from 6 to 17 are already using the internet. According to two studies presented by “Save the Children” and “Focus” on Tuesday, the Internet Safety Day, 60 per cent of them are contacted by pedophiles while 24 per cent receive sexually explicit messages. Patrick Danilevici, communications director within the “Focus” Roma­nian Centre for Missing and Se­xual­ly Exploited Children, stated that there are over one million pornographic pictures with children on the internet and approximately 200 are uploaded daily. “In Romania over 90 per cent of teenagers use the internet for socialization. Of those, 18 per cent state they reveal personal information on the internet, while 14 per cent state they talk with strangers. 14 per cent of the total Facebook users in Romania (2,693,200) are teenagers (ages 12-17) and the rate of using Facebook among them has grown exponentially since the start of 2010” Patrick Danilevici added. The “Save the Children” data shows that 14 per cent of Romanian mi­nors are the victims of harassment, 24 per cent receive explicitly sexual messages and 22 per cent reveal personal data.
