Under government’s draft bill on Wednesday, the position of government inspector is annulled. The document was rushed for debate by Parliament.
“The position of government inspector is annulled, yet the persons who hold this position remain senior civil servants part of a reserves body from where they can be picked for a position that requires senior public servant status or they could take a lower job if they wish or ask for it. The difference is that, while part of the reserves staff, they will no longer get paid,” government spokeswoman Ioana Muntean said.
According to data supplied by Victoria Palace, there are 77 government inspector positions at the General Secretariat of Government. Pay costs came up to nearly RON 5 M last year, of which salaries, holiday bonuses and the 13th month pay made up RON 3.642 M, home trip funds and forfeited sums equalled RON 350,000, and employer social security contributions accounted for roughly RON 1 M.
