Latvian President to visit Bucharest in early March

Latvian President Valdis Zatlers is expected to make a visit to Bucharest at the beginning of March, at the invitation of President Traian Basescu. The announcement was made by Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi after a meeting with his counterpart from Riga, Girts Valdis Kristovskis, yesterday, Mediafax reports. Baconschi also announced that he proposed to hold a joint Romanian-Latvian business forum to help the two business communities know each other better. ‘We will organize it through our ambassadors, although they are not resident, and also via the honourary consuls posted in Riga and Bucharest. I also believe that in the IT sector we have two communities that have something to share (…)’, the foreign minister also said. Also yesterday, the Latvian FM said that a honourary consulate would be opened in Romania very soon. In reply, Baconschi noted that Romania, in turn, plans to open an embassy in Riga in the near future.
