PDL Senator Mircea Banias, cleared in UCM Resita criminal probe

PDL Senator Mircea Banias was cleared, yesterday, from any wrongdoing in the UCM Resita criminal probe. The prosecutor who investigates the case, Gheorghe Bocsan, said early in December that the PDL senator of Constanta, Mircea Banias is probed as a “culprit (…) involved in these crimes” and that “a mandate has been issued to put his phone under surveillance.” Businessman Sorin Ovidiu Vintu was summoned for hearings in the same case. Vintu put his leg in cast the day before the hearings. Another suspect in the case is the former director of the Port Domains Department, Eugen Bogatu. DNA prosecutors will elucidate why Lebanese citizen Said Baaklini, arrested over illegal VAT refunds worth EUR 60 M, visited Vintu twice, the very day he fled Romania, on November 27, 2010.
