The Vodafone Romania mobile phone operator will invest approximately EUR 500 M into developing the network in the following five years, the company’s director general, Inaki Berroeta, stated, yesterday, during a meeting with the press, Mediafax reports. “According to analysts, the mobile data traffic will rise significantly in the years to come and the Vodafone Romania network has to be ready to keep up with it. The traffic growth will be backed by a rise in smart-phones sales, which will become more and more accessible as prices continue to ebb,” Berroeta stated. He added that the local telecommunications market has a potential for growth and that Vodafone Romania’s investments will expand to include the retail sector. The company launched, yesterday, a voice option aimed at the Chinese community in Romania. Thus, the users benefit from 200 minutes every month to call any phone network in China. The price of the service is EUR 15 credit for prepaid clients and EUR 15 (EUR 18 plus VAT) for subscribers. According to figures supplied by the Romanian Immigration Office, over 7,100 Chinese were legally residing in Romania at the end of September 2010.
