Chelu and other three defendants in “MAI bribery” case, released

The Bucharest Court of Appeal issued, on Friday, a final ruling to release, from custody, Catalin Chelu, who, allegedly, attempted to bribe the former state secretary in the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) Dan Fatuloiu, as well as the other three defendants in the case. The Bucharest Court of Appeal rejected the anti-corruption prosecutors’ appeal to the Bucharest Court’s Wednesday decision to release the four. Chelu is charged with bribery and influence peddling. The other three defendants will stand trial as accessories to bribery.
