The number of employment contracts running amounted to almost 6 millions at the end of January, rising from figures reported at the end of 2009, of 5.92 millions, “Ziarul Financiar” reports. Currently, the labour market is, however, far from the record reported in 2008, when over 6.26 million active employment contracts were reported at the territorial labour inspectorates. “With 53,000 freshly signed employment contracts and other 1.5 million contracts cancelled from the records of labour inspectorates in 2010, the figures hardly send an encouraging signal. I don’t know how much more it will last, but, for the time being, there are no signs of a recovery on the labour market,” Mariana Campeanu, economist and statistician, former Labour Minister within the Tariceanu Cabinet, stated. The largest number of employments are reported in the IT and car industry sectors. At the same time, new employments are announced by the large retailers and some banks.
