Romania claims the last but one position in the European Union based on its industrial growth rate in December 2010, of 4.3 per cent, compared to the same month of 2009, according to a Eurostat report. The report contains data on 21 EU member states. Among these, Greece, Malta and Spain reported, last December, annual slumps in industrial production of 5.2 pc, 3.1 pc and, respectively, 0.1 pc. The highest growth rates were reported in Estonia (38.4 pc), Ireland (16.9 pc) and Latvia (15.7 pc). Romania is ranked between Portugal (3.3 pc) and Holland (4.7 pc). Across the EU, industrial production rose by 7.7 per cent in December 2010, compared to the last month of 2009.
