Former PDL Hunedoara head sentenced to life in jail in Ireland

The former head of the Hunedoara branch of the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL), Marian Mihalache, was handed a life sentence in prison for murder in Ireland. He is charged with killing his lover in Dublin a year ago. He pleaded not guilty throughout the trial.

Loredana Pricajan, 35, who had worked for a couple of years as a medical assistant in a nursing home, was found dead on Jan. 28, 2010, her corpse bearing the marks of more than 20 brutal stabbings, in a student hostel in Dublin. The room was rented by Marian Mihalache, the victim’s former lover in Romania, who was also found in the room, with a wound to his neck.

The 49-year-old Mihalache had held several public administrative and PDL positions in Hunedoara County. He entered Ireland just three days before the murder, time during which he relentlessly harassed his former lover. Prosecutors say Mihalache killed the victim in a feat of rage, then tried to take his own life. However he has persistently claimed Loredana killed herself.
