Full-fledged winter in upcoming days, spring to arrive after March 10

Meteorologists are forecasting two days of full-fledged winter this Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by a period that will see temperatures of up to -18 degrees Celsius in mountainous regions. Poor weather warnings are not ruled out.

Traffic police informed yesterday that winter conditions were reported on several national roads in south-western and central regions as well as in Moldavia. “Two days of full-fledged winter will follow on February 22 and 23. If high wind speeds and snowfalls occur simultaneously we will issue a warning for southern regions, Banat, Oltenia. This news should not be considered entirely bad because a layer of snow is needed in south-eastern regions since fairly low temperatures of up to -18 degrees Celsius in mountainous regions are forecast for February 24-28 (…) so the layer of snow would act as protection for the crops,” Ion Sandu, director of the National Meteorological Administration (ANM), stated yesterday at the Victoria Palace during a videoconference with the Prefects. He added that temperatures will remain low until February 28 and will start to grow on March 1-6. “We will head towards spring after March 10 when there will be maximum temperatures of over 10 degrees, which again is good because if this forecast turns out to be true we will possibly talk about floods in the second part of March,” the director of the ANM added.
