Gov’t expects to collect EUR 500 M from auto tax

Government estimates revenues of approximately RON 2 bln from the auto tax, RON 437.5 M (EUR 100 M) above the estimated revenues from this source in 2010 and three times more than the revenues reported in 2009, against the backdrop of the tax hike that came into force on January 1, Mediafax informs. The revenues that the government collects from the auto pollution tax are deposited within the Environment Fund. In the Fund’s recently approved budget for 2011 the government has included total auto tax revenues estimated at RON 2.057 bln (approximately EUR 500 M). At the same time, Environment Minister Laszlo Borbely stated on Friday during a press conference in Targu Mures that the introduction of a general auto tax starting next year is being analyzed, being quoted by Realitatea.net.
