Legislative measures to introduce MSS in 21 EU member states

21 EU member states would have to urgently adopt legislative measures for the introduction, at European level, of Mobile Satellite Services (MSS), which can be used for high-speed Internet, mobile radio and television or for emergency communications, Neelie Kroes, deputy president of the European Commission, argued, quoted by HotNews.ro. According to European regulations, these services have to be introduced in all EU member states by May 2011, at the latest. Data of the European Executive indicate, in a report, that Romania adopted the necessary legislation, but the fees needed for its implementation are extremely high. “(…) MSS play an important part in providing innovative services to European companies and citizens, including those in rural or isolated areas, as well as in meeting the targets set in the Digital Agenda to provide broadband Internet access to anyone, anywhere in Europe,” Kroes added.
